Alternatives in Science Education – 1 of 2 – DtaS

Down to a Science presents a discussion on the state of California science education from kids to teens to adults. The discussion featured grade school teachers, home school teachers, high school teachers, and college professor along with some alternative science education specialists. Questions arose such as: Is science appropriately funded in California? What responsibility do parents bear? How should we balance hands on learning with lectures? Why is it important to teach science? The speakers were Dan Sudran of Mission Science Workshops, a hands on learning science space for kids. Zeke Kossover, science department chair of the Jewish Community High School By the Bay, a private high school where he had freedom in deciding the curriculum. Chris Giorni founded Tree Frog Treks, a science adventure camp for kids. More info can be found at: www.sciencecafesf.com
