IZOD Center Elephant


The Meadowlands and Ringling Bros.® partnered with the Barat Foundation and NJ Clean Communities for this unique project in which area children from several local organizations teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind elephant sculpture using recycled materials. The 40 students involved in painting and creating the elephantsculpture were from Central High School, The Newark Boys Choir, The Performance Learning Center of Communities in School at the YEES Alternative Education Center and Big Picture Schools all located in Essex County. The students were involved in developing the sculpture, they were asked to research and write an essay about the mythology of elephants and therecycling components of the project.

New Trier High School Center for Self Directed Learning 1977


This video was uploaded to coincide with the 30+ year reunion for Center alumni which took place on October 10th, 2009. For more information, see the Facebook Group “Center For Self Directed Learning” at www.facebook.com The Center for Self Directed Learning existed at New Trier High School East in Winnetka, Illinois from 1972 – 1982. It was an alternative school within a school with an annual enrollment of around 120 people. This is a film shot during the spring of 1977 and buried in a film can until August 2009. The film was never edited or shown back in the day. The original footage was digitally edited and uploaded to You Tube in August 2009.

Greenbush – Southeast Kansas Education Service Center www.greenbush.org At the core of every Greenbush Program is the unyielding belief that every student, regardless of geographic location, deserves equal educational opportunities. The main Greenbush campus is the site for unique learning facilities such as the Wm. L. Abernathy Science Center and rain forest, Mission Space Station, PSU/Greenbush Astrophysical Observatory, and Greenbush Archeological Dig. Learning opportunities for students are by no means limited to the Greenbush Campus. The Greenbush Interactive Distance Learning Network, Virtual Prescriptive Learning, Migrant Education, and Virtual Greenbush provide students across the state with curriculum and learning experiences ranging from algebra and history to career/technical education and foreign language instruction. In collaboration with school districts and state agencies, Greenbush operates Community Learning Centers and alternative education programs giving students who have previously dropped out-of-school a second chance to receive a high school diploma.
